I am from…..
Adapted by Levi Romero
Inspired by “Where I’m From” by George Ella Lyon

I am from red leather boots
From lunch boxes and soap.
I am from the red brick
fairy tale telling.
I am from the jasmine
the Sycamore
Whose long gone limbs I remember
as if they were my own.
I’m from laughing and dark hair,
From Joseph and Frances.
I’m from locks and care
and from sign songs.
I’m from go out to play and stop picking up the cat
and packing your sack
I’m from Christmas lights
I’m from Texas and Ireland
Stuffed cabbages and chicken livers.
From fire cracker teeth
Flying bicycles
Delicate pink flowers on scratchy brown limbs
in a golden room.
