Sat Skill:

* Use a wide range of strategies, including using context clues and predicting outcomes, to comprehend third-grade recreational reading materials in a variety of genres.

Examples: stories, trade books, poems.

Objectives:


  • Students will use a wide range of strageties to comprehend the book The Shelf Elf.
  • Students will understand how to find reading materials on their grade level in the library.
  • Students will understand how to properly take care of library materials.
  • Studetns will understand library procedures.

Introduction:

Welcome students.

  • Discuss library rules with students
  • Discuss library procedures to students.


Take the students on a library tour explaining how to find infromation on specific reading level.

Discuss the following with students while reading The Shelf Elf:
  • Library procedures
  • How to take care of library materials
  • How to locate library materials

Closing:

Summarize:
  • Library procedures
  • How to locate reading materials in the library
  • Explain Award winning Children's Literature Olympics
  • Explain 90% incentive

Students check out books.
